Shining a Light on the Plan
That’s Right for You.
Medicare and insurance in general can feel confusing, but you don’t have to figure it out alone. I’m here to listen, answer your questions, and take the time you need to understand your options.
What is Medicare?
Medicare is health insurance through the federal government, mainly for people age 65 and older. Some younger people with certain disabilities or medical conditions can qualify, too. It helps pay for health care, such as doctor visits and hospital stays, so you don’t have to cover the full cost yourself.
Learning about Medicare can feel like learning a new language, but you don’t have to understand everything all at once. Let’s start with the basics.
Part A (Original Medicare)
Part A helps pay for care when you’re admitted to a hospital. It also helps cover certain other services, such as hospice care and short-term skilled nursing care when you meet the requirements.
Part B (Original Medicare)
Part B helps pay for doctor visits, outpatient care, medical equipment such as walkers, and many preventive services, such as screenings and flu shots.
Part C (Medicare Advantage)
You receive your Medicare benefits through a Medicare-approved private insurance plan instead. These plans include Part A and Part B benefits, usually include prescription drug coverage, and may offer extras such as dental, vision, or hearing benefits.
Part D
Part D helps pay for prescription medications. These plans are offered by private insurance companies that follow Medicare’s rules.
Supplements
Medicare Supplement Insurance, called Medigap, to help pay some of the costs left over after Medicare pays its share.
